Dragon Ball, One Piece pushes Toei Animation past a massive mega office record

Just look at the box office to see why Toei Animation is having such a good year right now. From Dragon Ball to One Piece and beyond, some of the company’s biggest IPs have released movies in the past 12 months. These films have become huge box office hits, and now, their earnings seem to have helped Toei pass a major milestone.

The news comes from the company itself as Toei Animation has confirmed that 2022 is the highest-grossing box office hit of the year so far. The company earned about $151 million in the past 12 months. In fact, this total was obtained between January 1 and September 30, so there is still some time left for Toei to add to this record-breaking year.

Of course, One Piece: Red and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero contributed to this feat in massive ways. To date, the previous film has earned $112 million and has broken records on its own within the franchise. The latest One Piece movie is the bestselling and highest-grossing anime of the entirety to date. And of course, Dragon Ball has earned a lot.

In Japan, the last Dragon Ball movie grossed $18.5 million, and it has a worldwide gross of nearly $87 million. Other films such as PreCure’s latest entry have done well for Toei as they grossed over $3.5 million so far. So when it comes to the big screen, animations bring in big bucks.
